The Discovery on Netflix

thediscovery

Have you seen the Netflix movie called The Discovery?

I watched it the other night and it brought up a lot of questions that maybe you have pondered as well – for example –

What happens after death?

I find The Discovery an interesting answer to that question.  I would love to hear if you have seen the movie and what you thought of it.  In case you haven’t heard of the movie, below is the trailer in case you’re interested.

Feel free to share any thoughts you may have!

Cats and Dogs

tuffyTiffy ~ American Bobtail

Lately, I’ve been working like a dog, which is no surprise because I’m sure at times we all feel that way.  It’s the dog-days of summer so the heat affects us as well.  We’ve had bouts of raining cats and dogs too.  Are you following my animal analogies?

Dogs are people too, have you heard that phrase?  Dog is man’s best friend.  You call a dog and he comes (usually).  But call a cat?  Not such great odds that the cat will even hear you let alone think about moving out of his warm spot in the sunshine.  Have you ever attempted to corral a bunch of cats into one area?  If you have, then you know how anxious it can make you.  Just as you think they are all herded into one single area, one hops the fence, another squeezes through a crack, while the others walk around, tails high in the air, not a care in the world.  Grab the escapees and the ones who you were sure were just lazing around and grooming themselves, but have now decided to take off and explore on their own, regardless that you are calling their names.  For a moment, all is well.

Does this sound familiar to you?  Metaphorically of course, because unless you are a crazy cat lady, you don’t have so many cats in one area.  We have two ~ Tiffy is a little diva, a snuggle kitty, my constant companion, a chatterbox and the winner of the best fur therapy giver award.  It is to Tiffy whom we whisper our frustrations, snuggling into her fluffy, soft fur, burying our faces streamed with tears when nobody else is home.  The holder of secrets and yet she is a demanding and independent thinker who just lives by her own clock, her own mind and her own needs.  And yet, we adore her!  Our younger family member is Tigger who is still a little sprite of energy, even after being with us for four years.  She quite literally runs our household now, including running Tiffy who is not used to anything more than a sedentary lifestyle.  It’s been an adjustment for sure, for us all, but mostly for Tiffy who welcomed a friend, but on her terms.  Tigger brings vitality to our home.  Her shenanigans amuse us and her willingness to play with anything and everything keeps us on our toes.  Her nickname is the hooligan!

So how are cats like people?  Well, dogs are what we people would like to be, what we would like to have as our comrades, those with whom we come into constant contact.  To me, a dog is mostly friendly, happy, without secrets.  A dog needs water, food, a bit of playtime with a ball and is simply happy to be here with you.  Canines notoriously make excellent pets because they are reliable and their mood shows directly in their posture, on their face and mostly, they are happy to see you.  They are without cares, do not hold grudges and you can easily read them by their stance.  In other words, they are what we would like the people in our lives to be.

Cats, who get a bad rap for being more independent, are more like people.  They rock their own tune in their head and don’t rely on being told what to do like dogs.  They have their own agenda and aren’t afraid to hiss when things don’t go their way.  They build trust slowly, but surely.  They have 9 lives and like to nestle in the most obscure places, like the linen closet.  Rarely do they come when called unless it suits them.  Most of the time, you can’t read their minds (unless I put out the tuna treat and then I know that I am number one in their book for awhile).

While we don’t have a dog in our home, we love them and would have one if we could.  But for now, it would upset the feline energy here at the moment.  Friends of ours just had a litter of black lab pups that are calling my name.  I can’t upset the household with a new puppy, but it sure would make for some crazy future posts!

It’s So Hot Even The Wildlife Are Weary

itssohoteventhewildlifeareweary

We are having extremely hot temperatures here for the past few days.  My air conditioners at the house are suffering as they never get a chance to rest and it’s still 80 degrees in here.  But it’s better than the heat outside, so I’m not complaining.

Yesterday, I looked outside and saw this little guy on my patio.  At first, he wasn’t moving and I was concerned that perhaps he was dead, but once he heard my voice, he picked his little head up and when he saw me, off he scampered back into this little burrow under the shed.

Today, he was in the same position and I can’t help but wonder if it wouldn’t be cooler in his home under the ground?  Or perhaps he just felt like being outside in the shade?

He’s little and there’s a much larger version of him as well.  They bolt noisily across the patio when they hear me coming.  But I think it was so hot that he was weary from the heat so he didn’t notice me until he heard my voice talking to him.

I’m thinking he’s a groundhog or a woodchuck.  I researched and found out he’s a marmot (which is the collective word for groundhogs and woodchucks).  He can stand up on his hind legs and look around.  I tried to get a photo of that because it reminded me of those prairie dogs, but he noticed me and ran away.  Such is my luck…but I’ll keep trying!

I looked up groundhog and here’s part of the spiritual message:

Take time out today for meditation and self reflection. Use Groundhog energy to go deeper and to dig out what is unseen within you.
-Groundhog

Here is another version as well!  Click here for marmot symbolism!

I’ve named him Digger.  But I need a name for his larger friend.  Do you have you any ideas?  If you get a spiritual animal message from him to me, please share!

The Heiress He’s Been Waiting For

the heiress he's been waiting for

I’ve been reading Kaitlin O’Riley’s novels for years.  However, when I found out that there’s a giveaway on Goodreads for her latest book, I just had to share because who doesn’t love a good read for free?

Even if you don’t get lucky, I still highly recommend her latest book – or any of her previous ones.! There’s something for every reader in a Kaitlin O’Riley novel.  As an internationally published author, historical romance is her forte!

What sets Kaitlin O’Riley’s books apart is the engaging dialogue along with the realistic twists that surprise us completely.  I enjoy the family feel of her series about the Hamilton Sisters and their bookshop.  While I’ve read them in order, you don’t have to at all.  Just pick one up and you’ll meet this lovely family of five sisters and as time goes on, their husbands and children!

If you’re a book reviewer and would like an advance digital copy to review on your social media, please contact me as Kaitlin is a personal friend and that’s how I was able to read her amazing romance novel in advance!  By the way, her book will be available for the masses in September!  It’s well worth waiting for if that’s what you want to do!

Want to know what it’s about?

In Victorian London, the Hamilton sisters are known for their bookshops—and for finding their happily ever afters on their own terms. Now, much to their chagrin, their offspring are following in their unconventional footsteps—in life and in love…

Raised in New York, shipping heiress Sara Fleming was ready to elope—until her disapproving parents tricked her onto a boat heading to England. Her only consolation is getting to see her beloved aunts and cousins. Even the start of London’s Season—and a strikingly handsome earl—can’t make her forget the man she left behind.

Considered one of London’s most eligible bachelors, Christopher Townsend, the Earl of Bridgeton, is not what he seems. Having inherited his father’s crushing debt, he must choose a wealthy bride to save his family’s estate. Though rumored to be penniless and committed to another, Sara takes his breath away—and makes him question what he truly needs to be free of the past. But he’ll have to win the headstrong beauty’s heart one kiss at a time.

What Would You Do If You Only Had Three Weeks To Live?

whatwouldyoudoifyouhadonlythreeweekstolive

Because my friend’s dad was told he had only three weeks to live, it made me think – What would I do if I only had three weeks to live?  So I’m asking the question to you as well.

What Would You Do If You Only Had Three Weeks To Live?

Three weeks isn’t a long time and yet, I feel as if it gives us a little time to prepare.  But let’s face it, we’re never really prepared for our own death or for anyone else’s, are we?  I know that for myself, I’m not.  For that matter, nothing is certain in life and none of us really knows how long we have here on earth.

So what would you do with your last remaining three weeks?

Travel?  See faraway family and friends?

How would your life change?

Would you be more proactive?

Would you hole up and isolate?

Would you feel invigorated like you had to accomplish your bucket list now or never?

Or would you fall into the deepest depression ever?

Would you rethink your relationships?

Would you have those hard conversations that you’ve been avoiding?

Would you be a wild child and throw caution to the wind even if you’ve been cautious your whole life?

Would you write your memoirs?

Would you feel the need to go to church more often?

Would you suddenly exercise or stop exercising?

Would you eat dessert first?

Would you mend those broken fences or would you break them?

Would you do something you’ve always been afraid to do like sky diving or swimming with sharks?

Would you want to have your loved ones surrounding you or would you want to be alone?

Would you spend all your money that you have left frivolously or would you make sure that what you’re leaving to your loved ones is secure?

I’m interested in hearing what you are thinking so please share!

Friendship Lifts Us

friendship lifts us.PNG

“The circles of women around us

weave invisible nets of love

that carry us when we’re weak

and sing with us when we are strong.”

A long time friend’s Mom passed away recently.  As the text went out to all the girls, letting us know, we rallied as we often do in the face of sadness.  Exactly one month later, we received the news that her Dad passed away.  Both parents in such a short period of time is devastating to me.  I can’t even imagine her pain and sadness.

We all feel her pain for we have parents too.  Some of us still have parents living and others have mourned the loss of our parents’ demises in all different forms.  But what keeps us together is the bond of friendship we share.

I find it interesting that the group who surrounds my friend is a mixture of girls from high school, but not all of us were close in high school.  But the willingness to be there for someone else in their time of need supersedes whatever our relationships once were (and there is even someone in the group who didn’t really know her, but yet is a staunch supporter of her in this time of need because she understands how it feels).

How much of a blessing is that?

So today I ask that you reach out, gather around, bond and connect with people.  Shine your heartlights.  Hold hands in friendship.  Be still.  Be kind.  Listen with an open heart.  Be the loving souls you are please.  I think our world could use a bit more of that everyday.

Shine On!
