Daily Prompt: “Think Global and Act Local”

Today’s daily prompt:  “Think global, act local.” Write a post connecting a global issue to a personal one resonated with me and when I went searching for an image from my SendOutCards greeting card catalog, I knew I had to share!

With today’s daily prompt, I challenge you during the month of February to practice gratefulness for 30 days.  As an 11 year breast cancer survivor, I’ve learned that the key to enduring life’s journey is simple ~  LOVE and GRATITUDE.

World peace is possible by taking small steps ~ and it begins with you and me. 

Imagine for a moment going to your mailbox  ~  you rummage through the junk mail, the bills, the newspapers, etc.  As you quickly peruse the pile, you see an envelope which isn’t a bill, isn’t junk mail and you’re curious.  This is the envelope you open first, isn’t it?  This envelope is an unexpected card from me ~ telling you how wonderful you are and how grateful I am for you in my life.  I  don’t know many of you personally, but as a blogging community we’ve bonded in a most unusual way.  The positivity that flows so effortlessly makes it easy for me to send you this real paper card to tell you how happy I am that we’ve connected and how much I enjoy reading your blog.

Angelic Wings Embrace…

I want to thank you all for everything  ~ I wanted to find the right card from my SendOutCards catalog to post today ~ one that would perfectly describe how I’m feeling since my last post and I am hoping that you feel the same way I do ~ that this one says it all.

To all of you who took a moment to think of me, to vibe, to Reiki, to pray, to read, to bless, to comment, to call, to write and to visit…my heartfelt gratitude goes out to you as words cannot accurately describe the tingling of change I’m feeling…and I know that its power is immeasurable and I’m confident that with baby steps, I am turning the corner…

It’s a good lesson to learn my friends ~ yet another one in my life that I’ve been given before and tried to reject.  So perhaps that’s what this post is all about ~

We are all connected.

Together we can make Miracles.

We are not meant to do it all alone.

Even the strongest oak needs help.

Separately, we can only walk…

Embracing each other allows us to fly!

Christmas Spirit on its way!

So after I put in one of my favorite scenes in movieland ~ Mame’s rendition of We Need a Little Christmas Now, into yesterday’s post, I began thinking about that special movie ~ all the amazing quotes from it that I loved.  Now the one I gave you, was the 1973 version with Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur which is a classic unto itself.  However, my favorite rendition is the original movie called Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell from 1958.

So I got my computer, put it on the kitchen table, started some broth in a pot on the stove and checked out my trusty Amazon account (thinking of ShareChair http://sharechair.wordpress.com/in the back of my head…what would she do to find a free version of a the movie) and began!  What I found was a FREE VERSION with my Prime account…and I could watch it from my computer, while I made comfort food for my family and myself.

So as I chopped veggies and chicken and whipped up homemade chicken soup complete with a dash of love and then scooped Nestle Toll House chocolate chip ready made dough from a container and ‘baked’ chocolate chip cookies, I watched my movie in the kitchen by myself…fresh balsam candle twinkling and making the house smell like love and Christmas…and with food ready for our bellies, filled with love and comfort.

In the midst of all of my kitchen antics, my doorbell rang ~ my neighbor brought me a huge homemade wreath ~ made with the branches from our street which had fallen and are being picked up by the town this week…TAngel and her husband had painstakingly picked up branches of magnolia trees, spruce and pine and she had woven the most beautiful wreath I have ever seen, complete with colorful Christmas ball ornaments to brighten my day.  I was in awe of her talent, let alone the fact that she had made it for me.  I feel so grateful and so blessed.  To be given such amazing holiday spirit by a kind friend! And when I was all done with my movie, chicken soup ready for the family dinner and homemade (ahem) cookies for dessert, I got online to see if I had any emails waiting…and there you all were…our beautiful blogging community…

Hurricane Sandy Help from Faraway!

So many people have helped those affected by Hurricane Sandy!  Recently I saw that a friend who moved to Ocala, Florida, inspired her children’s school and community to donate items to help those in New Jersey ~ her childhood home.  On FB, I watched as she asked and got help and donations and even got a truck to bring them to N.J.!  The power of one person ~ multiplied by hundreds of other like-minded hearts ~ can change lives!

I was inspired by them and so in just a few minutes, I made the following 3 panel card to thank them!  I thought I’d share to show you that sometimes I simply send one of our cards from our catalog and other times, I make the card myself.  It doesn’t take talent, or skill…it just takes a few photos or logo and a few minutes of your time.  There’s no limit to what your imagination can do with SendOutCards! (Green dotted lines that you see are not on the cards, they are just to show you the edges of your card ~ whatever is outside the green dotted box is not printed.  Because these are pictures of what I did, you will sometimes see the lines, but I can assure you, they are not on the cards received through the mail! 🙂

I chose a 3 panel card (see above) as I had a bunch of pictures and I wanted to send a video so I wanted a bunch of panels to fill up.  The 3 panel card cost $.93, all of the pictures cost $.31 (I could have had 100 pictures or just one ~ the price was still the same) and to add the video to the card cost $.31, postage is $.45 for a stamp so…

This is why I love what I do!  I just uploaded their pictures from Facebook and their website to my free SendOutCards (SOC) account, then I decided what backgrounds, fonts and colors I wanted, I then wrote a note from my heart and finally I found their address, filled in the blanks in the virtual envelope provided by SOC and voila!  I clicked send ~ within 24 hours, my card was printed, stuffed into the envelope, licked, addressed, stamped and mailed for me!

There is nothing easier, nor more fun, nor less expensive and yet priceless!

I saw this card and thought of dear Mother Nature who has bestowed so many experiences on our Jersey Shore lately.  I thought you might like the giggle of this card because it reminded me of the snowman my sons made yesterday.  It also reminded me of the gift of gratefulness that she has given to us ~ be thankful that we’re here, we’re healthy and we’re alive ~ and for everything else!  Do you practice gratitude everyday?  It’s a must!

Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Nor’Easters ~ Help!

I feel like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz…truly…it’s been one thing after another here for this Jersey Gal.  Hurricane Sandy last week gave us downed trees, power outages, loss of food, loss of life ~ not to mention destruction of property in overwhelming proportions.  Sandy devastated the surrounding areas and many, including my sister and Mom are still without power.  Now I know that we can’t compare Sandy to Andrew or Katrina…but still…and she arrived on Monday October 29th.

One week later, on Monday November 5th, we had an earthquake in Ringwood, NJ  ~ just one week after Sandy hit…which personally I didn’t feel where I live.  A 2.0 magnitude which was reportedly heard as a loud boom for those awake at 1am in the morning.  For an area which is still power deprived, still cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, I just can’t imagine the fright that the earthquake gave those who felt it.

And then, last night…just two days later, a Nor’Easter hit us.  A Nor’Easter is defined as a macro storm blowing in from the northeast.  Weathermen had been telling us that we would experience heavy rains and high winds in my area…instead, we received a heavy mantle of white snow to the tune of 5 inches at my home which was pretty to watch as it came down, but only if you were happily bundled in a warm home with heat and food.  Luckily for us, we have power, I had made homemade chicken soup and we had heat and each other.

It’s the simple things in life my friends.

Shelter, food and love and not necessarily in that order…but for now, yes, in that order.

So I’m asking for help here…not for myself but for those who need it…for those who’ve lost everything.  The Red Cross is a charitable, well-known, hard-working group who are here, providing water, shelter, clothing, blood for hospitals and funds for those who need it.  Perhaps you would like to help but don’t know what you can do…below please find some links ~ you can donate from your cell phone by texting ~ you can donate blood for those who need it ~ you can donate online if you choose.

If you can’t do any of the above, then I simply ask that you take a moment to give…

Heal Your Life TODAY!

When I awoke this morning, I felt as though I would have a red carpet set before me…and behold…here it is!  In my email was the above picture of a video which I have included below.  I watched the video and I think you’ll really enjoy it as well so I’ve included it.  However, it got me thinking of all I could do with Louise’s picture above so in a matter of maybe 5 minutes, I used my SendOutCards account and simply clicked on a few templates (and I didn’t even play with the picture which I could have) and the following cards were made for me…Please let me know which one’s your favorite???
