Sweet Summer

summer

It’s Friday!  The weekend begins ~ just a quick note to send joy your way!  Take some time today to be kind to yourself and to enjoy the wonder of Mother Nature’s gifts.  Eat strawberries, jump in a lake or swim in the ocean, listen to the cicadas in the coolness of the evening, walk barefoot in the grass, on the beach, wherever you are!  Face the sun and let the shadows of worry fall behind you.

Be safe.  Be kind.  Be for just a little while.  Stillness renews our souls and helps us to reconnect soul and body.  Happy Summer to YOU!

Find Your Way Home

findyourwayhomeIf light is in your heart, you will find your way home. ~ Rumi

I love this quote as I write about your heartlight shining often.  I believe that when we lead with our heart, we shine, we grow and we connect with others.  Sometimes, we hide in the darkness of despair, never reaching out to the light which Mother Nature gives us everyday.  A new dawn, a new possibility, and/or a connection can change the way we are looking at our present.  Divine Intervention often delivers miracles, but unless we are actively aware of our heartlight, we can miss even the most obvious blessings.

So keep the light in your heart turned on dear friends.  Even when life seems dreary and stormy.  There is always your heartlight shining, helping to bless your life with peace and love to find your way home.

Peace and Koi

Peace and Koi

Peace and Koi

Finding peace within sometimes take a little help from Mother Nature.  I watch as the koi swim in the pond, allowing each fish his own path, intersecting, bumping and swimming, always on the go.  Small chipmunks and lively squirrels come by to rest and refresh themselves ~ a sip of the cool water from the pond is all that it takes to quench their thirst and off they go on their merry way.  Birds stop in for a little bath now and again.  Some even perch on the side to sip before flying off to parts unknown.  Spiders build a web to catch some of the little bugs that fly by.  Zipping by the water to catch a drink, dragonflies skim the surface before taking their leave.  Suddenly there’s a splash from nowhere and up pops a little frog’s head.  He’s hopped there into the mix as well, floating lazily on the fountain’s current as the koi swim serenely underneath the surface.

It’s a lively oasis and a peaceful one as well.  Everyone’s busy on their own agenda, yet living in peace and harmony.  Live and let live.  There’s love, survival and beauty in our little pond  I hope you find a little peace and koi here along with me.

P.S.  I tried to upload a video of the scene, but it wouldn’t work because it was an imovie.  Anyone know how to change the format so I could include it?  I just thought I’d ask…have a lovely day!

Spring Has Sprung!

spring

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush. ~Doug Larson

Having battled another snowstorm last week, it doesn’t feel like springtime.  And yet, because of daylight savings time, it does feel warmer, sunnier, more spring-like with dusk arriving later than we were used to which is such a treat!  In fact, I didn’t even shovel as the sunlight has been doing a great job of melting all the snow ~ thanks Mother Nature!

So, Happy Spring Y’All!

Love and Light

lovelight

I wish you…Love & Light.

I have missed you dear friends.  I apologize for writing so sporadically these past few weeks and for not having visited you much either.  A friend signed a note to me recently with the above “I wish you Love and Light” and I just thought I would pass it along.  For to me, it is a sentiment close to my heart and one that I wish for all of us.

Our life journeys are not always easy and they don’t always go as planned.  To let go of expectations, of desires and of wants is a difficult lesson to learn and one I am now learning.  To let go and enjoy the wonder of the present moment is what I remind myself through blogging and one that I hope always shines through to you.

Each day, we have a choice.  Each moment, we can choose happiness, gratitude and love.  Those are the important parts of life I think.  The rest is all fluff, necessary fluff as we need to have shelter, food and clothing, but fluff nonetheless.  For our legacy here is love.  How we made others feel by being our real selves and how we made a difference in someone else’s life.  It’s being present with ourselves and with others.  Finding time to connect, to love, to be grateful and to fill the world with our shining love.

Perhaps I am a dreamer.  I’ve been known to wear rose-colored glasses and not see reality as such.  Certainly, I’ve learned quite a few lessons in my life from my experiences with enduring breast cancer, grief and many other things that I don’t wish to recall at this time.  But I’ve always been able to find the sunny side of the journey.

It’s a choice to find the sunshine, the moon and the stars.  It’s a choice to be happy and to go on when life throws us curve balls that we just didn’t want to see coming.  It’s a time of growth when we have to change course.  But I am here to tell you that you can do it.  Sometimes we need to step outside ourselves to find our footing again on this path of life.  It’s rocky at times as many of you already know.  Smooth sailing is not always good as it doesn’t give us a chance to spread our wings and learn to fly.

“When you come to the edge of all that you know,

you must believe one of two things:

either there will be ground to stand on,

or you will be given wings to fly.”

– O.R. Melling, The Summer King

May you remember the above quote this week as you journey into the month of October.  May love and light surround you every step of the way.

Dream and Live

“Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.”
Actor, James Dean

The moon enthralls me.  I don’t know why except it does.  Every morning I take my son to the bus stop and when it was dark outside we could see the moon and the stars perfectly.  It’s a wonderful time of day I think and I highly recommend that you partake of the gift ~ you know the one ~ where the darkness fades and dawn begins.

I was never a sky watcher, but in recent years, I find myself looking up (literally and figuratively) more often and what I find is truly amazing.  Do you ever stop to look up at the sky during your busy day?  It’s a lovely moment to capture if you can remember to do it!  I find the most sparkling of stars (and now I’ve learned they are planets ~ namely Jupiter!) next to a glistening moon.  I see rainbows, jewel-colored sunsets, white fluffy clouds and the most precious blue skies ever!  I experience sunbeams which radiate through clouds and I even find beauty in darkening thunderous clouds which bring on the rain.

Oh and the snow clouds ~ how could I forget those?  Many an hour I have stood by my window and watched snow fall ~ blanketing the Earth with brilliance.  I am always amazed by the gently falling snow, the furious falling snow and even the big fluffy cotton-ball snow flakes!  I guess you could say I’m easily enthralled and enchanted by Mother Nature and you would be right.

For you see, tomorrow is promised to no one ~ so we must enjoy the gifts of today.  Hug those whom you love, tell them how you feel and be content with what you have.  Gratitude is the key.  When you are grateful for what you have, more comes ~ it is when you feel lack, that you gain lack.

Look up today.  Share in the comments what your sky’s gift to you is today.  Experience the mightiness of the Earth and Mother Nature and feel the oneness in which we all connect!

Where in Nature Do You Find Your Peace?

thebeach

 I am soothed here.

I’m a Jersey Girl, although not the Snooki kind, but the real-life gal who grew up going to the beach everyday she could, who finds the sound of the ocean soothing and who goes in search of the sand between her toes, the sun in the sky glistening on the water and the waves crashing gently to shore in order to soothe her soul.  That’s me.  A drive to the beach will suffice when the weather’s too cold to dip my toes into the ocean, but I must smell the briny scent of the ocean’s perfume in order to completely find my peace within.

Do you have a special peaceful place in nature that you call your own?

Are you a beach person like me?  Or do the mountains beckon to your soul?

Do the lakes have your heart?  Or does the chilly snow hold you?

Does crunching in fallen, gem-colored leaves soften your sadness?

Or does the howling wind blow away your troubles?

Do raindrops wash away your tears?  Does the acrid desert drain your worries?

Does the sunshine call your name?

Or do moonbeams beckon your feet to dance?

Do twinkling stars ignite your passion?

Or do clouds feather your dreams?

Please share with me ~ I’d love to hear where you find you peace!

Laugh, Love and Be Grateful

Lately I find that perhaps because it’s November and the start of the holiday season that I stop periodically throughout the day to just breathe for a moment and to be grateful.  Do you ever take a moment to simply breathe and count your blessings?  It’s not exactly a meditation for you may remember how I fared with Deepak and Oprah awhile back.  Click here!  A full-sitdown meditation session even if it’s only for 20 minutes is still too much for me to handle.  But these itty bitty snapshots of gratitude have been lifesavers lately.  I feel a bit more grounded.  I feel a release of stress and I feel a relaxation and almost like I”m dropping my troubles at the door again. Remember the Trouble Tree?  Click here!

Every morning my son and I walk to his bus.  It’s early and the world is quiet ~ such a magical time for us both!  It’s our together time, before the hustle and bustle of our days begin and I treasure it with all of my heart.  We look up at the sky, notice nature and enjoy each other’s company for a few precious minutes each morning.  Even bundled up against the wind, the rain and the cold weather, I wouldn’t change a thing because as we walk, we talk, we notice the sky, the leaves, the trees and all the bounties that Mother Nature provides.  Sometimes I am even gifted with linking arms with him as we walk (especially when it’s cold out and oh, how I love the cold or the rain for just that reason!).  I sip my coffee as we wait and chat.  Some mornings we share a laugh, sometimes we are simply quiet.  But I always feel we are surrounded by love.  He’s a teenager, but such a loving, typical teenage boy ~ I love his spirit, his kindness and he’s growing up to be a good man.  He’s not a Mama’s boy ~ far from it ~ but he’s a caring, kind and good person who keeps his teenager-ness with all its bells and whistles intact.  But it’s in these mornings, that I see the man he is growing to be and I”m proud to say he’s my son.  And as I walk back down the silent street after the bus has come to take him to school, I notice all the graciousness in my life.  I give thanks for the gifts of the day, I send up my silent please for whatever I may need and I imagine that red carpet ahead, leading me and my family on the path of our highest good.  I bless the world we have made and I look joyfully towards my day.

`Tis the season to be grateful, to appreciate and to expand the blessings that we have been given.  Look around.  Who needs a smile from you?  Who needs a hug?  Who needs a few extra moments in your day?  You have plenty of all ~ why not share?  You know that what you focus on expands, what you give out you receive one hundred fold back in return and what you give out you get!

Since we know all of those little ditties (and surely there are more so please comment with them) then why don’t we make it a daily practice?  Just take a few moments everyday to stop, to be breathe, to be grateful, to count our blessings and to smile.  Imagine how much sweeter the world would be if we could all do this everyday?!

Earth Day Has Sprung!

10716793_

Spring. Yesterday the twig was brown and bare;

To-day the glint of green is there; Tomorrow will be leaflets spare;

I know no thing so wondrous fair, No miracle so strangely rare.

I wonder what will next be there! L.H. Bailey

For the last few days, I’ve noticed there’s an abundance of growth springing up everywhere!  Spring has sprung I believe!  I thought the above card was perfect for a Monday, especially since today is Earth Day!

I hope wherever you go today, that you take a moment to just experience the wonder of the gift from Mother Nature which surrounds you.  Take a deep breath and smell the Spring air!  Touch the bark of the tree which leaves are beginning to bud.  Look at the plants which are bursting from the earth in search of the Spring sun and rain showers ~ ready to pop their beautiful blossoms for all to enjoy!  Take a moment to gaze at the sky with wonder at the clouds, the sun, the moon and the stars!  Commune with the nature which envelopes you.  We are all connected ~ you are a big part of this universe.  Feel the love, the community and the connections.  We are one.

Happy Earth Day and Happy Spring!
