Why Should I Fear?

whyshouldifear

“Behind me is infinite power.

Before me is endless possibility.

Around me is boundless opportunity.

Why should I fear?”

– Stella Stuart

Have you ever experienced fear or viewed life through fearful eyes, ears, mind and soul?  Fear can wrap its icy tentacles around hearts and paralyze our thinking.  I have been there.  I know that it happens and fear can have the power to stop us in our tracks.

But this quote above by Stella Stuart is a lovely reminder that there is more than fear in this life.  Fear can be managed when we think with love, with possibility, with hope and with faith.  I wanted to share this quote with you today so that you can have the gentle reminder that you are more powerful than you know!  Shine your heartlight dearest friends!

Sending you strength, love and boundless possibility, today and everyday!

Shine On!

All Great Changes Are Preceded By…

Chaos

“All great changes are preceded by chaos.”

~ Deepak Chopra

There’s been so much chaos in our world lately.  Crime, hate, suffering, and terrorism all seem to consume the news, social media and conversations among ourselves.  Planet Earth has become bombarded with chaos seemingly everywhere we turn.  For me, I am saddened to my core by the chaos of our world as I am sure you are as well.  I am frightened by the violence, death and destruction which has unfortunately become increasingly more erratically frequent, more prevalent and somehow more unbelievably evil.

So, what’s the answer?

I pray Deepak is right with the quote above as it gave me a little peace in my heart today.  Perhaps this chaotic time will bring change for the better for our world.  Maybe we can come together to bring about peace in our lands for humanity and for our world.  Imagine if each of us would shine our heartlights everyday in our own corners of the world.  One day we may even be able to eradicate the darkness that seeks to overcome humanity.

One heartlight at a time…

John Lennon’s voice echos in my mind…take a moment, generate peace in our world and hope for a brighter future along with me today.  You can do it.  Imagine…Shine your heartlights dear friends.  May peace be with you all!  You are loved. ♥

How To Embrace Change

Change is beautifully inevitable

Seasons change, people change, weather changes, day changes to night.  When we balk at change, it stunts our growth.  Many of us can flow with the changes of daylight savings time, etc with ease, but when it comes to deeper changes, more life changing changes, we stomp our feet and dig in our heels, crying ‘no fair!’ to the Universe.  But friends, it’s all for naught.  The changes that are coming, the changes that arrive, come whether we believe it’s fair or not.  It comes as no surprise that change happens in life, for otherwise we would remain stagnant and not have the opportunity to grow, to move out of our relegated zones of comfort and expand our experiences.

Change happens.

“When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change,” is a quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer and happens to be on of my favorites.  It’s helped me through many of my life experiences when I wanted to refuse to budge from my own comfort zone even though my life had changed dramatically.  The idea that I can look at change from a different view and find the good in the change even when it was hard to see has been a pivotal point in my soul’s growth.  I can tell you that it hasn’t been easy to deal with many of the changes in my life, but then I don’t think that upheavals are supposed to be easy.  Sometimes they are simply mind shattering and belief scattering ~ which allows us to pick up the broken pieces of our lives and put them back together in a different way.  We change (for the better) when we allow change to flow and not dam the flow of life.  Certainly, I’ve learned that lesson time and time again as I know you have as well.

Change heralds freedom and allows us to drop the woulda, coulda, shoulda’s that may have had us imprisioned in our own lives.  Whether it be changes in health, relationships, jobs or roles, we need to find the peace in our own minds, hearts and souls to embrace the change and go with the flow.  That doesn’t mean you are in a canoe without a paddle, it simply means that you now know that you are the paddler of your own canoe.  Sure, you can link your canoe up with another’s, but you are still in charge of your own buoyancy.

For we can sink or swim when change happens.  We can stop trying and drown in the sorrow or we can tread water until we begin to swim again.  It’s a choice.  Lessons learned by change can feel daunting, but given time and trust, we can see the gifts that come from change.  There are blessings in change.  There’s opportunity to shine your heartlight when you’ve survived what you never thought you could.  There are connections with others to be made when you share your life experiences.

I know it’s not easy, but it can be done.  I am living proof.  Everyday in every way, you choose to swim or to give up.  Keep swimming dear friends.  You can do it.  If you need a helping hand, grab your paddle and let’s flow together.

Change is inevitably beautiful.

Pinktober

005

Well, we’ve almost made it to the end of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I’ve yet to write anything about my struggles, my journey or my on-going dance with cancer.  Perhaps today it’s time to update from a survivor who was diagnosed on New Year’s Eve of 2001.

I’ve spoken to many people, sharing my story when I thought it would help and connecting with them when I knew they needed someone to simply understand the devastation that we feel when life turns upside down.  I’ve been a Reach to Recovery Volunteer, helping those who want to find a new normal and who are looking for a way out of the labyrinth of grief which many times surrounds us when we are hit with a cancer diagnosis.  For everything changes in our lives when cancer hits.  Life, relationships and health all change and we suffer until we can find our equilibrium.  We grieve, we mourn and we endure what we previously thought unthinkable.  We can stagnate in that pool of darkness or we can reach out for the light.  As a survivor for so many years, I try to be an inspiration and to shine my heartlight so that others can find theirs and begin to move on in their lives.  I know it’s not easy, for I have been there, done that and still struggle with the aftermath of cancer.  It seems I am never fully out of its grasp as it rears its ugly head in my life from time to time as a pointed jab and a reminder that life is a gift and everyday we must be grateful for this moment in time.

With breast cancer in particular, we suffer the indignities of losing our outward signs of femininity (breasts, hair (chemo)) and many times our ovaries which help keep our feminine hormones going.  Sometimes we can even lose touch with ourselves as we struggle to come to grips with a body which many times in clothing looks good, but in our birthday suits, is riddled with train track-like scars and missing pieces.  It takes a strong woman to get up every morning and to continue to strive to be the best person she can be when her heart is breaking.  I admire those women who can be vulnerable and yet be strong, who can laugh, but still cry, who can feel even when her body is numbed by surgery or can remain peaceful while hearing careless comments from those who say they love them.

We all have a story to tell when it comes to surviving breast cancer.  Each of our personal stories is a bit different, but the fundamental grief and subsequent healing of body, mind and soul are similar.  Today’s post I dedicate to those friends and family who have gone before me, those who are presently enduring breast cancer and to those, like me, who are still here, somewhere in purgatory, never quite released from its icy grip, but still hopeful that it never quite fully returns.

Tidbit from Marilyn

monroe

I believe that everything happens for a reason.

People change so that you can learn to let go,

things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right,

you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself,

and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Happy Friday!  May your coming weekend be filled with love, laughter, health, wealth and joy!

There’s No Present Like The Time

time1

“There’s no present like the time.”

~ Babul from The Second Exotic Marigold Hotel

It seems that we all have an expiration date which most of us do not know.  So to live without remembering that knowledge is to hide our heads in the sand like ostriches.  I’m not saying that we should live in fear of death, but to remember that this present moment is indeed a present. A gift that we should not waste.

Life moves quickly these days.  Many people live longer lives, but take less time for themselves.  Rushing to every event, whatever it may be, keeping busy on the computer, the smart phones etc., takes time away from being present in the present moment.  I understand we all have responsibilities, but we must carve out a few moments to simply be in the stillness of the present moment.  To reconnect with ourselves, our families, nature and all the gifts that are ours when we stop the rush in the insanity of life.  To actually take a moment to breathe, to listen to our hearts and minds, to hold hands, to reconnect with loved ones, to simply love that we are here, right here and now, wherever we may be, in whatever capacity life holds for us.

Time is a gift.  Use it wisely.  Don’t squander it on meaningless pursuits.  You can make a difference in your life and in the lives of others. You have the power within you.  Be grateful for the present and use your power for good, for you are loved.

I Hope You Dance

I’m including the video and lyrics to the song above which came out in 2000.  Back then, it was special to me because I thought it was what I wanted my children to learn about life.  Now it is a gentle reminder for myself as well. ♥

May you be reminded and inspired today and everyday ~ Keep your heartlight shining!

I Hope You Dance ~ Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)

How To Weather Storms In Life

stormsinlife

When we have storms in our lives, we choose how we face them.  With fear, we can run and hide, hoping that it will blow over.  We can close our eyes and remain oblivious to them and not deal with the storm which is staring us right in the face.  Or we can slowly open our eyes and work our way through the clouds, through the storms and into the sunshine.

Storms shake up our world, our views, our relationships and our sense of self.  Like gardeners who prune their plants in order to shed what isn’t growing, in our lives, storms do the same.  Storms blow over in time.  Allowing the storm its time to shake us up is a good thing I think.  It causes us to deal with our fears, to move forward into solid thinking and to find balance where perhaps there was none.  We’re usually on shaky ground when the storm hits and we feel its full impact when we are not balanced with inner peace.  That’s when the fear emerges and we choose fight or flight.  But those aren’t the only two options.  The third option is to ride out the storm.  I think that’s the hardest option, but the most beneficial for our spiritual growth.

Riding out the storm takes courage.  It takes facing the storm, allowing it to roll in and bluster around us.  It causes us to find our balance, dig our roots in deeper and take a deep breath in order to stay in the eye of the storm.  To know, with full knowledge, that we can ride out the storm, grow from its affects and emerge with our heartlight intact, facing the sunshine.

It’s not easy.  It’s a choice.  It’s holding our inner peace while the storm rages.  It’s a process.  It’s not always forward moving through the storm.  Sometimes it’s like dancing a cha cha, moving backwards and forwards until staying in the same place isn’t feasible to us anymore and then we make the choice to step forwards towards the sunshine ~ or step backwards to return to the darkness of the past.  It’s letting go of what was, what could be and allowing ourselves to find inner peace simply with what is.

It’s natural to feel alone in a storm.  That’s when we reach out to our soul family for a loving embrace, a hand to hold, a loving connection which helps us to hold onto the knowledge that there is sunshine on the horizon, even when we can’t see through the clouds, the thunder and the lightning.  It helps when they can hold the vision with us so that if we take a step back into the storm, we are fortified with the kind reminder that there is sunshine when we move forward.

So if you are riding out a storm in your life, please know that there are others who care.  Eventually we all have storms in our paths, some are big dangerous lightning-filled storm clouds, filled with big raindrops and clanging thunder that sweep us off of our feet and toss our realities, changing them forever.  Some storms, simply shake us up so that we can see with the help of the lightning, be cleansed by the rain and hear the words of reality before the sun rises.  Either way, I think storms are good in the end.  They are a chance to grow, to find balance and to fortify our inner wisdom and peace.

Storms let us choose to grow or to remain sodden.  Face the sunshine dear friends.  Storms only last as long as you allow them.  You always stop crying eventually.  So feel your storm, find your center heartlight, bless your loving essence and once the storm moves on, your balance, your strength and your beautiful soul will regain its momentum and begin to shine again.

Shine On!

The Owl and the Pussycat

The Owl and the Pussycat

This is a screenshot from a video a friend sent me.  See below the unusual friendship video that was posted on youtube.  It reminds me how if animals who are not normally friends can get along, why can’t we humans?

Think about it.  The internet is chock full of videos and television shows which demonstrate unlikely friendships in the animal world.  It is a joy to watch different species connect on a level that surpasses nature.  Friendship between foes always makes me grateful that there is hope in the world for us all to connect on a spiritual level.  Doesn’t it just raise your faith in the seemingly impossible?  It does mine.

Have you seen any videos such as this?  I’d love to watch them if you would please share below for us all to enjoy!  I am sure that we all have a favorite (if you are into such things).  Next time you feel adamant about not getting along with someone, take a moment to remember Mother Nature’s gift between species.  Not every foe is a true enemy.  Some are precious friends.  Stay open-minded.  We are all connected here.
