A Book Lover’s Tag

bookloverstag

I just saw a lovely post over on Ivon Prefontaine’s blog called A Book Lover’s Tag  and it inspired me to answer the questions and post them here and give a call out to all of you book lovers who have been on this journey with the book tour for Jay.  This was my post contribution for Jay’s debut novel #Watching Glass Shatter!  I’m not nominating anyone in particular, but if you feel so inclined, please let me know you did it as I’d love to read your responses!

  1. Do you have a favorite place to read? Yes, I like to read in bed or on the couch.
  2. Do you use bookmarks or random pieces of paper? I use random pieces of paper if it’s a real book.  If not, then I use the bookmarks on the kindle.
  3. Do you eat or drink while you read? Not usually.
  4. Do you listen to music or watch TV? No, I like to read in silence.
  5. Do you read one book or several at a time? If I’m power-reading (meaning so into the book I can’t put it down) like I was with Jay’s book, then it’s one at a time.  But I enjoy reading a few books at a time too.
  6. Do you prefer reading at home or elsewhere? I will take the kindle on trips with me, but normally, I just read at home.
  7. Do you read silently or out loud? I read silently.
  8. Do you read ahead or skip about? I read straight through the book.  I never like to skip about or read ahead.
  9. Do you break the spine or treat it like new? I usually don’t break the spine and I tend to treat the book well so that I can pass it along in good shape.
  10. Do you write in books? If it’s a favorite self-help book, then I will turn down pages or maybe even underline.  But for the most part, I don’t mark them up.
  11. What books are you reading now? I am reading The Tao of Equus:  A Woman’s Journey of Healing & Transformation Through The Way Of The Horse by Linda Kohanov on my kindle.  Thanks Karel at Peace With My Life for the suggestion.
  12. What is your childhood favorite book? The Secret Garden comes to mind as well as Gone With The Wind which my best friend read to me in sixth grade when I was home sick for awhile.  For children’s books, Goodnight Moon and Dr. Seuss’ books.
  13. What is your favorite book of all time?  Oh my, I don’t think I have a true absolute favorite book – maybe Gone With The Wind if I had to choose one.  But I have many books that I enjoy re-reading.  The authors Louise Hay, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Doreen Virtue, Tosha Silver, Florence Scovel Shinn and many others come to mind as favorites that I can reread at leisure when I need a little pick me up!  I also like the romance author Kaitlin O’Riley’s many historical romance novels.

Thanks for playing along and reading my post!  I love to read other people’s responses so feel free to answer the questions in a post and let me know so I can visit you too!

Book Shares Wanted

BookShares

I love to share books.  Having a kindle means I can keep my favorites all in one spot.  I can reference quickly and easily when needed.  One of my staples is  You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay (click for more info on blog post) which I frequently search when a friend confides an ailment to me and wants more information about it.  The books written by Florence Scovel Shinn are also in my fingertip library to keep me humming along with my affirmations when distractions slide me away from the Law of Attraction.

There are little escape books which make me feel good to read, relax and rejuvenate.  There are long-time favorites like Gone With the Wind, The Secret Garden and various books written by friends who are authors.  There are the usual array of positive, inspiring books in there as well.

I love to read (and to write).  Usually I read before bedtime for a bit.  My tastes vary, but I have found my local library on my kindle to be a plethora of great reading material for free.  I like to learn when I read and I don’t mean manuals.  I usually have one or two books going at a time on my reading list.

Do you enjoy reading?  What type of books do you gravitate toward?  Would you please list a book or two that you find enjoyable or meaningful in the comments below?  Even an author that you like is appreciated!  I love to read all types of books so it doesn’t have to be spiritual, although I don’t enjoy reading horror-type books.   I’d love to add to my list of future reading material and I thought it would be wonderful if we could all share what we are reading or what we have read and enjoyed.  Thank you in advance for sharing!

Harmony Begins With You!

harmonybeginswithyouHarmony Begins With You!

Have you ever felt out of sorts?  It feels like nothing seems to be going right in your life?  All of your endeavors appear fruitless?  Your relationships are skewed, finances in disarray?  Health problems plague you?  Even the weather and your plans aren’t cooperating?  Well, there may be an easy explanation for the confusion you are enduring.

Harmony begins with you.

It’s a simple solution, but some may balk at the notion that the chaos you are experiencing is manifested by the inharmonious thoughts in your own mind.  Perhaps, I can show you what I mean.

Let’s experiment.  Today, let’s look carefully at our thoughts, actions and words.  Try for 15 minutes to notice what you are thinking, writing, believing, saying and doing.  What negativity do you observe?  You may find your mind is bombarding you with worry, fear, regret, anger and resentment.  These feelings manifest themselves in your daily life, wreaking havoc in every plan and experience.  It’s a vicious cycle that only you can change.  And the best news is, You Can!

Back in 2012, I wrote about a favorite book that I reread when I need a gentle reminder to clear myself and realign my thinking.  Here is the post.  At the time, I even did a series of posts on Florence Scovel Shinn’s books, taking tidbits which I felt highlighted the essence of what she was writing and sharing what I felt pertained to most of us at that time in my life.

Recently I picked up the book again to re-ignite the harmony which I felt was missing.  Many of her affirmations jumped out at me, but one in particular resonates and I think it might be helpful to you.

I am poised, harmonious and magnetic.

So my prescription to you, should find yourself in the above situations is this:

Rx ~ Read, write, speak aloud the affirmation above today 10x.

Be grateful for your poise, harmony and magnetism.

Simply take a moment out of your day at small intervals and repeat the Rx.

Do this for a few days and see how your mind/life responds.

Be aware when you are thinking negatively.  Stay conscious as you go about your day.  Think twice before spewing anger and instead, simply repeat the affirmation.  It may feel funny at first, but feel free to try.  You may just notice that harmony begins to enrich your life; pathways open, you feel better, opportunities arise and you are enveloped in a peaceful embrace by the Universe.

Let me know what you think!  Have you ever heard of Florence Scovel Shinn?

Share below when you feel a shift in your thinking.

Today is…

70024452_

Today is a day of completion.  Thy will be done today Lord not mine.

Miracle follows miracle.  I give thanks for this perfect day.

Please give me a definite lead.  Let me know if there is anything I need to do.

The above is the set of affirmations which came to me this morning when I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock.  The memorized phrases came unbidden as they often do and as usual, I simply went with the flow, repeating them until the alarm blared again, announcing it was really time to get up!

I’ve spoken about affirmations before in many posts.  If you search Louise Hay or Florence Scovel Shinn on my blog (below I’ve given you a few links!) you’ll find oodles of information in case you’re interested.  For me, affirmations are a way to psychically, emotionally and sometimes perhaps physically, change the channel in my mindset.

I can only speak for myself, but there have been times where my mind repetitively blocks the flow of energy to my body by concentrating on a thought that’s not healthy for me.  So when I realize this, I simply change the channel by introducing another thought, another affirmation.  It’s like dealing with a child who’s attracted to the flame of a candle.  You simply take her hand and lead her to something that’s more interesting so that she forgets about the allure of the flame and changes her focus to something less dangerous and more positive.  As a parent, you probably know what I mean, don’t you?

So I find that my mind sometimes needs a little reset button ~ even a delete button and I’ve learned how to change the channel in order to stay on track.  It’s really quite simple.  I have an arsenal of affirmations which speak to me.  I listed them and can pull up the file as needed.  Of course, I’ve been doing this for awhile now so many of them are already memorized.  It’s like checking the file cabinet in my mind.

Here are a few I use often:

Divine Love floods my consciousness with health and every cell in my body is filled with light.

Money comes to me under grace in perfect ways.

I give thanks that I am abundantly supported.

I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams.

I give thanks that the life that is mine is filled with love,

laughter, health, wealth and happiness for all.

I am thankful that I am led today where I am most helpful

and I share happiness wherever I go.

I hope this helps you as it has helped me in my life.  What do you do to reset your brain when you’re worried, scared or sad?  Connect with me and let’s share so that we can all benefit!

Happy Thursday to YOU!

Perfect Self-Expression or The Divine Design 9

Perfect Self-Expression or The Divine Design

I do use some of what Florence advises…I like some of her affirmations and I do find that they help to motivate me and to get my head in gear.  The one I like the most is found in this chapter…

“Infinite Spirit, open the way for my right home, my right friend, my right position.

I give thanks it now manifests under grace in a perfect way.”

Excerpts from Chapter 9

There is a place which he is to fill and no one else can fill, something which he is to do, which no one else can do; it is his destiny!   This achievement is held, a perfect idea in Divine Mind, awaiting man’s recognition. As the imaging faculty is the creative faculty, it is necessary for man to see the idea, before it can manifest.  So man’s highest demand is for the Divine Design of his life.  He may not have the faintest conception of what it is, for there is, possibly, some marvelous talent, hidden deep within him.

Give Divine Design the opportunity to work for you!

Try it NOW!

Intuition and Guidance 8

Intuition and Guidance

I will allow Florence to explain her views on Intuition and Guidance…but I’d love to know what you’re thinking…

Excerpts from Chapter 8

I have often been asked just how to make a demonstration.   I reply: “Speak the word and then do not do anything until you get a definite lead.” Demand the lead, saying, “Infinite Spirit, reveal to me the way, let me know if there is anything for me to do.”

The answer will come through intuition (or hunch); a chance remark from someone, or a passage in a book, etc. The answers are sometimes quite startling in their exactness. For example: A woman desired a large sum of money. She spoke the words: “Infinite Spirit, open the way for my immediate supply, let all that is mine by divine right now reach me, in great avalanches of abundance.” Then she added: “Give me a definite lead, let me know if there is anything for me to do.”

The thought came quickly, “Give a certain friend” (who had helped her spiritually) “a hundred dollars.” She told her friend, who said, “Wait and get another lead, before giving it.” So she waited, and that day met a woman who said to her, “I gave someone a dollar today; it was just as much for me, as it would be for you to give someone a hundred.”  This was indeed an unmistakable lead, so she knew she was right in giving the hundred dollars. It was a gift which proved a great investment, for shortly after that, a large sum of money came to her in a remarkable way.

Giving opens the way for receiving. In order to create activity in finances, one should give. Tithing or giving one-tenth of one’s income, is an old Jewish custom, and is sure to bring increase. Many of the richest men in this country have been tithers, and I have never known it to fail as an investment.

The tenth-part goes forth and returns blessed and multiplied. But the gift or tithe must be given with love and cheerfulness, for “God loveth a cheerful giver.” Bills should be paid cheerfully; all money should be sent forth fearlessly and with a blessing.

Here’s another Florence reference post:  listening-in-2

Are you listening to your gut? Your Intuition? Your inner guidance?

Listen up!

Love and Money 7

Love

There’s so much to LOVE that I don’t know where to start…so I’m just giving you a little bit of Florence’s chapter on Love…

Excerpt from Chapter 7

Real love is selfless and free from fear. It pours itself out upon the object of its affection, without demanding any return. Its joy is in the joy of giving. Love is God in manifestation, and the strongest magnetic force in the universe. Pure, unselfish love draws to itself its own; it does not need to seek or demand. Scarcely anyone has the faintest conception of real love…”You can never receive what you have never given. Give a perfect love and you will receive a perfect love.

Then I told her of a brotherhood in India, who never said, “Good Morning” to each other. They used these words: “I salute the Divinity in you.” They saluted the divinity in every man, and in the wild animals in the jungle, and they were never harmed, for they saw only God in every living thing.

No man can attract money if he despises it. Many people are kept in poverty by saying: “Money means nothing to me, and I have a contempt for people who have it.”  Money is God in manifestation, as freedom from want and limitation, but it must be always kept in circulation and put to right uses. Hoarding and saving react with grim vengeance.  This does not mean that man should not have houses and lots, stocks and bonds, for “the barns of the righteous man shall be full.” It means man should not hoard even the principal, if an occasion arises, when money is necessary.  In letting it go out fearlessly and cheerfully he opens the way for more to come in, for God is man’s unfailing and inexhaustible supply.  This is the spiritual attitude towards money and the great Bank of the Universal never fails!

People are sometimes filled with remorse for having done someone an unkindness, perhaps years ago.  If the wrong cannot be righted, its effect can be neutralized by doing some one a kindness in the present.

So what do you think of this chapter on Love and Money?

Do you agree?  Want to read more?

Replace Fear with Faith ~ 6

Casting the Burden

Casting the burden you say…has she gone wacky this Saturday morning?  What in the world does that mean?  Is this a fishing post?  We’ve never had one of those!  No, my dear friends, it’s not a fishing post, but a cleaning out the mind post and casting the burden of fear out of your head post!  Tossing the old, gunky fears out of you and letting in the light of knowledge.  How’s that?  Just a new way of thinking…a way in which you can walk up to that fearsome lion of ____ (insert whatever you fear) and find he’s only a friendly Airedale (dog) waiting for you to pet him! (from Florence’s chapter 6 reworded by yours truly).

Simply put, replace fear with faith!

Excerpt from Chapter 6

When man knows his own powers and the workings of his mind, his great desire is to find an easy and quick way to impress the subconscious with good, for simply an intellectual knowledge of the Truth will not bring results.

In my own case, I found the easiest way is in “casting the burden.”  A metaphysician once explained it in this manner. He said, “The only thing which gives anything weight in nature, is the law of gravitation, and if a boulder could be taken high above the planet, there would be no weight in that boulder; and that is what Jesus Christ meant when he said: “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In steadily repeating the affirmation, “I cast this burden on the Christ within, and go free,” the vision clears, and with it a feeling of relief, and sooner or later comes the manifestation of good, be it health, happiness or supply.

One of my students once asked me to explain the “darkness before the dawn.” I referred in a preceding chapter to the fact that often, before the big demonstration “everything seems to go wrong,” and deep depression clouds the consciousness. It means that out of the subconscious are rising the doubts and fears of the ages. These old derelicts of the subconscious rise to the surface, to be put out.

I am asked, so often by my students, “How can I get rid of fear?

I reply, “By walking up to the thing you are afraid of.”

“The lion takes its fierceness from your fear.”

Walk up to the lion, and he will disappear; run away and he runs after you.

One of my favorite affirmations is:

“I cast this burden on the Christ within, and go free!”

Try it out yourself!

The Law of Karma and the Law of Forgiveness 5

Boomerang anyone?

What goes around comes around…sound familiar?  What about Let Go, Let God?  Perhaps you know the Serenity Prayer?  God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.  Well then, you’re a bit familiar with the Laws of Karma and Forgiveness!  So let’s keep going with Florence’s chapter 5!

The Law of Karma and the Law of Forgiveness

Excerpt from Chapter 5

Man receives only that which he gives. The Game of Life is a game of boomerangs. Man’s thoughts, deeds and words, return to him sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.  This is the law of Karma, which is Sanskrit for “Comeback.” “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

The divine pattern is the only safe pattern to work by. Desire is a tremendous force, and must be directed in the right channels, or chaos ensues. In demonstrating, the most important step is the first step, to “ask aright.”  Man should always demand only that which is his by divine right…and the curious thing is, man always gets just what he desires when he does relinquish personal will, thereby enabling Infinite Intelligence to work through him.

“Let go, and take your mental hands off; put it in God’s Hands, and use this statement:”

I put this situation in the hands of Infinite Love and Wisdom;

if this ___ is the Divine plan, I bless it and not longer resist,

but if it is not divinely planned, I give thanks that it is now dissolved and dissipated.”

Happy Friday to All of YOU!
