When you go out into the woods and you look at the trees,
you see all these different trees.
And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight,
and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever.
And you look at the tree and you allow it.
You see why it is the way it is.
You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way.
And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree.
The minute you get near humans, you lose all that.
And you are constantly saying, “You’re too this, or I’m too this.”
That judging mind comes in.
And so I practice turning people into trees.
Which means appreciating them just the way they are.
– Ram Dass
I love this quote that I found today and so I had to share it with you. I think it’s such an easy way for us to all get along, isn’t it? In this world, connection and harmony are most important, as is appreciation of all people. It’s inherent in us to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature, so why not enjoy the beauty of each other? Instead of condemnation or criticism, let’s employ Ram Dass’ practice of looking at people as trees and appreciating them. Isn’t it time we spread more light and love in this world? I can see your heartlights sparkling dear friends!
Shine On!

I’ve thought about trees like this for a long time. My Grandma was like that too. When we went on walks near her home she would introduce me to her favorites! Trees are definitely like people but have us far outmatched when it comes to patience! Hugs!
Oh how lovely Saymber! Thanks for sharing! I agree that we can take a few lessons from our trees…big hugs to you dear friend! ♥
Brilliant share Yvonne! I’m a sugar maple…I gladly share my ‘blood’ with any and all who desire it, I am brilliant and radiant when the climate around me can get cold and hostile, and for this people flock to be a witness and remember how beautiful the cycle of life really is, I don’t hang onto my leaves like grudges…I let them fall early and fast, I know I am but one of thousands of species, none of which can do what I do, but I love them all just the same, for they do things I cannot, like the beautiful and haunting birch that can shed its outer skin like the strongest parchment paper, revealing the soft, smooth underbelly readying itself for what lies ahead, to face whatever comes with strength and fortitude necessary to withstand the negative elements. Hahaha…this could go on and on, but you get the idea! I love this post, and love seeing us as trees. Great, big, beautiful, life giving, trees. Just brilliant. xoxo
Rhonda, I love your analogy! You certainly are a sugar maple dear friend! You shine from here and I can see your beauty – inside and out! Have a marvelous day! xoxo
Trees are too beautiful and alive and innately GOOD for me to be able to conjure up that image for this particular person. It’s gone from bad to worse again and I thank the universe for more and more signs, though.
I’m sending healing hugs to you Sabrina as always. It’s just walking through the forest to appreciate the trees that’s required of you. Move along on your path and cease looking back to the past and face the future and the beautiful sun! xo
Wonderful message thank you for this!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope all is well with you!
This is a great message on Martin Luther King Jr day , and a great message any day.
Thanks Anne! I thought it was a good one too!
It does pull us up and let us ‘see’ this within ourselves Yvonne ❤
I agree Mark and trees are so very unifying in a forest! Human connection brings us close. ♥
This is a great message. Thanks!
Thanks Dan! I’m glad you liked it! 🙂
I don’t think of Ram Dass’ quote as having anything to do with trees! It is the message that we should allow every person to be who he is and what he is, without trying to change him or wish he were something else. What do you think?
I agree with you Ronnie! It’s just another way of looking at people with acceptance and love and understanding. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
