Yesterday, I went outside to water the impatiens as they were looking a bit droopy and as I walked by the chair on the patio, I spied this praying mantis just sitting on the top of the chair! If you know me, you know that I get messages via Mother Nature’s animals who stop by to visit me. I’ve written about the deer, the geese, the honeybee, the katydid, the koi, the hawk, the birds, the frog, the cats and even the pests that squatted in my rental home before I moved in! Just use the search button if you’re interested in any of the animal encounters I’ve had!
But a praying mantis is a first for me in many years. So of course, I had to look up the spiritual totem meaning because it’s unusual to just see one sitting on the patio chair mid-afternoon. What I found fascinating is how his/her head turned and watched me as I walked by. We interacted and simply watched each other with the same stillness and curiosity. I took the following photos, trying not to scare him/her and to remember this moment.
This is where I found some interesting information!
The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we’ve flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din we’ve created.
Praying Mantis Symbolism: To answer the call from deep within through:
Stillness: In this way, the stillness of the Praying Mantis spirit animal is equal to the human act of receiving based on self esteem and self love.
Intention: When you come across the Praying Mantis, it means that you are being blessed with the power to increase your intention many times over. Intention is increased through focus.
Attainment: Attainment is one of the significant attributes of Praying Mantis symbolism. The most successful people in the world use this Praying Mantis power of attainment.
Fulfillment and Satisfaction: It is in this self learning (of mindfulness and becoming aware) that the Praying Mantis signifies the “calling,” that can only be discovered from inner contemplation.

Have you ever had an encounter with a Praying Mantis?
Shine On!

I learn something new everyday.
Me too! 🙂
It is an honor when encounters like this happen – it’s like connecting with a fragment of the sentience of nature….God peeking in at us through the eyes of these beings.
Oh I love how you put it Saymber! You are so wise dear one! xo
🙂 I’ve got great company in the wise department! I truly appreciate reading your adventures – your paying attention to the world and the beings you share this life with.
Thank you Saymber! I appreciate you and our special connection! ♥ Have the loveliest day!
I love knowing the deeper meanings of these encounters. I am glad you had this positive one.
Thank you! I love to look for the meanings as well and share them in case someone else has a similar encounter! 🙂
You are very welcome 🙂
We tend to see one or two a year. they hand around for a couple of days, and then gone.
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing Dan. I can’t remember the last time I saw one in person!
Yvonne they also mean your garden is very healthy if you have Praying Mantis. I love them.
Oh good! That’s great to know Kath. Thanks for telling me! A healthy garden! Woo Hoo!

I saw a praying mantis a couple of weeks ago. Read on to see what that old man was saying to me…
Thank you so much for the reblog! I’m glad you now know what the Praying Mantis was saying to you! ♥
I haven’t seen a praying mantis in a long time (perhaps development is wiping them out of my area?) I have seen tons of dragonflies lately. Really enjoyed this post!
Oh dragonflies are awesome too! I just saw one the other day! I did a post on dragonflies if you’re interested!
Cool … I will definitely look that post up!
♥
I resonate with the wisdom of the praying mantis… I used to call them stick insects. I encounter a couple at the time I was finding more peace and quiet to dive deep within myself, when I arrived in Spain for my next adventure…. I needed to chill out, which I did and experience magic… I actually began a journey with 9 elemental beings I perceived that awaken the sovereign master IAM. I later wrote about this time in my book 📚 YourMagnificent Self… A journey To Freedom. Thanks for your story and reminder of past synchronisities… Love Barbara x
I have been on your blog! It’s lovely, like you! I am enjoying reading your posts and can’t wait to read your book! xo

Oh thank you Saymber! They are amazing photos! I love Cindy! What a lovely connection we share! xoxo
Fascinating!
That’s good information to have. There was one in my yard a few weeks ago but it was a friend who saw it first. I don’t see well enough to see them. I think my garden has a long way to go to get healthy enough to have them there regularly. I like the idea of slowing down and focusing. I’m always going in too many directions so maybe it’s time to slow down for both of us and be more introspective. Even though I know we both are.
Great thinking Marlene. Slowing down here. xo
