“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
~ Thomas Campbell
My heartfelt thanks to Nicole click here to see her blog for it was there where I first saw this amazing quote. As the holidays are upon us, there are families who have missing members, ones that are not here anymore as they have passed away or even moved away. It saddens me to count the second Christmas that my Dad is not present with us. Sure, I can say that his spirit is around us, especially on his favorite holiday, but he is not here anymore.
So I wonder, what will happen when I pass away? Will there be a thought of me when everyone gathers around the Christmas tree? Will my passing be noticed by anyone else besides my immediate family? Will there be any mention of my name or memory by someone that I didn’t birth or marry? I don’t care to be immortal for my ego, but to try to make a difference in others’ lives. I want to live in hearts, happier hearts for perhaps having known me. Does this make sense? But how?
Simple: Obey the Golden Rule!
Matthew 7:12: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
Confucianism: “Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you” (Analects 15:23)
Hinduism: “This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you” (Mahabharata 5:1517)
Buddhism: “Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful” (Udanavarga 5:18)
Sounds easy, right?
Shine On!

Me too! xoxo
I especially love the quote and photo. Thank you for this post.
I find it is difficult when I’m primarily thinking of myself, but gets progressively easier to the degree that I think of others.
You are so right Russ! But then, I know you are always thinking of others! 🙂
